Many a time’s people experience pain from consuming hot tea, cold drinks and even sweets. They even fear from touching tongue or tooth with other tooth or tongue.
This pain or discomfort refrain them from consuming too hot or cold things. This condition is better named as tooth
sensitivity. Tooth sensitivity is classified into two types:
Dentinal: the middle layer called Dentin is exposed due to erosion of outer layer called enamel or inner layer called centum. The nerve ending is exposed to middle layer called Dentin. Exposure of dentin leads to dentinal tooth sensitivity.
Pulpal: the pulp or center of tooth is of blood vessels and nerves. If in case the pulp is exposed then it causes pulpal sensitivity.
While dentinal sensitivity may affect surrounding teeth as well, pulpal sensitivity affects that particular tooth which is associated with it.
Dentinal sensitivity is curable but pulpal sensitivity requires professional touch to treat it.
There are some precautionary measures to be adopted to prevent dentinal sensitivity:
Use super soft tooth brush. Brush in upward-downward manner, rather than from side to side.
Treat your teeth for grinding and clenching
Toothpaste has to be approved by ADA and use fluoride tooth paste meant especially for sensitive tooth care treatment.
Brush and floss daily two times.
This will prevent you from dentinal sensitivity of teeth.
